K minus 17 days - FIFA and its Tournaments
The Federation Internationale de Football Association, or simply FIFA, has been in operation since the last 110 years, established on May 21, 1904 by seven founding members - France, Spain, Switzerland, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden and the Netherlands. It has since expanded to include 209 member nations currently and is one of the most dominant sporting bodies in the world
The advent of football as the most popular and global sport was so complete that there exists only one sovereign nation, the Marshall Islands, which has no history of a national football team and only eight other nations, which have at some point of time or other having a football team, have not been a member of FIFA. The association, which has its headquarters in Zurich, has been instrumental in spreading the game beyond the boundaries
Initially incorporated in Europe, it has expanded into Africa in 1908, Americas in 1912/13. FIFA has recognized six continental confederations that oversee the operations in different regions of the world

- CAF - Confederation of African Football
- CONCACAF - Confederation of North, Central and Caribbean Association Football
- CONMEBOL - Confederacion Sudamericana de Futbol in South America
- OFC - Oceania Football Confederation in the Pacific Oceania region except Australia
