Michel Platini

Arguably one of the best footballers from France, Platini is the winner of three Ballon d'Or awards. He played in three World Cups, in 1978, 1982 and 1986 and was instrumental in leading France twice to semifinals. He's part of the "magic square" together with Giresse, Fernandez and Tigana. Although his first appearance in 1978 World Cup resulted in disappointment with a group exit, Platini returned in 1982 as the captain and guided France to unexpected semifinals spot which they lost against West Germany on penalties, the game is considered one of the best matches of World Cup history
He famously scored nine goals in a single Euro Championship, in 1984. Platini scored 41 goals for France in 72 appearances, he also scored freely at club level scoring 224 goals in 432 games. Michel Platini is the president of UEFA since 2007

Lothar Matthaus

Matthaus is the most capped German of all time with 150 appearances, he played for 20 years and scored 23 goals for the nation. He played the most World Cups by an outfielder with five appearances from 1982 to 1998, in which he played 25 World Cup games, which is another record. He captained West Germany to victory in 1990 tourney. He primarily played as a holding midfielder or a sweeper
Maradona wrote about him in his book that Matthaus is the best rival he ever had. He is the first recipient of FIFA World Player of the Year award in 1991

Gary Lineker

Gary Winston Lineker, OBE, is one of the best English strikers with 48 goals in 80 appearances, just a goal short of Charlton's record for England. He played in two World Cups, in 1986 and 1990 and scored ten goals, which is another English record. He's known as a clean player, never to receive an yellow or a red card in his long career spanning more than sixteen years
He top scored in 1986 tourney with six goals in five games and became the only English footballer to receive a World Cup Golden Boot. He scored the only English goal in the infamous Hand of God match against Argentina

Roberto Baggio

Perpetually remembered for his missed penalty in the 1994 final shootouts against Brazil, which would have won the cup for Italy. He won the Silver Ball and Silver Boot in the tourney scoring five goals. He also played in 1990 tourney when Italy finished third and reached quarters in 1998 tourney. Baggio is considered one of the best Italian footballers of all time scoring 27 goals in 56 appearances, with 9 goals he is the leading World Cup scorer for his nation and is the only Italian to score in three different World Cups
His appearance earned him a moniker "The Divine Ponytail", he won the Ballon d'Or in 1993. He also played 488 club games for some of the big clubs like Juventus and Inter Milan and scored 221 goals

Ronaldo

There are three great footballers named Ronaldo. Portugal's Cristiano Ronaldo is still in the process of gaining his own legacy, Ronaldo de Assis Moreira popularly known as Ronaldinho has his share of fame, but the greatest of them all in terms of World Cup success is Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima or simply Ronaldo. Dubbed as "The Phenomenon" he's considered to be one of the greatest footballers of all time. He is the highest goalscorer in World Cup history with 15 goals to his name. His first World Cup ended controversially as it was revealed that an unfit Ronaldo was allowed to play against France in the final match, he got injured and France won the match 3-0. But he more than made for it when he scored freely in 2002 tourney, despite returning from an injury, and won the Golden Boot with eight goals. He scored three more goals in his final World Cup in 2006 equaling Klinsmann's record, eventually overtaken by Klose
