K minus 2 days - My Predictions This World Cup
The mega event is just a mere fifty hours away and its time for predictions on the prospects of the teams' progress
Some teams possess amazing talent in their lineup while some teams rely on reputation but most of them rely on the form and fitness of the squad. There are players like Messi and Ronaldo who can turn matches on its face while some squads like Spain and Brazil count on how their team work together to achieve success
Group Stages
Group A
While Brazil looks like a clear winner of the lot, Mexico would need to deal with a deft Croatian squad for the second place to progress and they might just about make it through
1. Brazil 2. Mexico 3. Croatia 4. Cameroon
Group B
Its an easy group and the toughest part is to decide on who will top the group. Barring any upset, the Spain vs Netherlands match would decide the order and Spain might once again pip the Dutch to the second place. Chile's contention as the in form South American team doesn't seem to outweigh the form and talent of last year's finalists
1. Spain 2. Netherlands 3. Chile 4. Australia
Group C
While Colombia might have lost Falcao, they are playing in far familiar circumstances and have enough in them to top the group and Greece's defensive caliber might be enough for them to progress over the talented but aging Ivorians. This is a relatively open group with no former champs
1. Colombia 2. Greece 3. Ivory Coast 4. Japan
Group D
The group of death in true sense with as many as three former champions but when compared, England doesn't fare much in terms of talent or form. Italy would easily top the group with Uruguay at its tail. Who knows, if Suarez gets back to full fitness, the South Americans might even top the table
1. Italy 2. Uruguay 3. England 4. Costa Rica
Group E
France might have lost Ribery, but they have enough talent to scrape through this weak group with just the Swiss looking likely to pose any threat
1. France 2. Switzerland 3. Ecuador 4. Honduras
Group F
Its Argentina's group and the newcomers Bosnia are a talented bunch to milk a string of favorable results for them. Iran and Nigeria are talented enough to progress but this might be the debutants time to make an impact
1. Argentina 2. Bosnia & Herzegovina 3. Iran 4. Nigeria
Group G
G is for Germany but no such luck for Ghana as in form Cristiano is warming up his heels to make a much awaited impact on the Cup. While USA are making excellent progress on the world stage, their time might yet not have arrived
1. Germany 2. Portugal 3. USA 4. Ghana
Group H
The most open group of the tournament but it might turn out to be most underestimated group. Belgium oozes of talent at every front and is ready to sizzle at the World Cup. Russians are the "unknown unknowns" of the event and they'd like to perform as well as their predecessors, the Soviet Union. South Korea and Algeria have talented squads and can make an impact in their days
1. Belgium 2. Russia 3. Korea Republic 4. Algeria
Knockouts
Round of 16
Netherlands and Portugal might be the high profile casualties at this stage facing Brazil and talented Belgium
Brazil beats Netherlands
Uruguay beats Colombia
Spain beats Mexico
Italy beats Greece
France beats Bosnia
Germany beats Russia
Argentina beats Switzerland
Belgium beats Portugal
Quarter Finals
Brazil beats Uruguay (ooh! Maracenazo)
Germany beats France
Spain beats italy
Argentina beats Belgium
Semi Finals
At this stage anything can happen, the South Americans might be too good at home to oust the Europeans out or the Europeans might prevail due to their talent and preparations, but from this stage on the predictions are mostly emotional
Brazil beats Germany
Argentina beats Spain
(I personally prefer the Europeans beat the South Americans though, but that never happened and not likely this time too)
Final
Brazil beats Argentina to win a home World Cup
(I again personallu prefer Germany to lose against Spain, to put all the teams in their own perspective)
I'm working on a graphic to represent these scenarios and will upload whenever I can
