Football World Cup is not just about football. It's also about fanfare, travel and tourism, celebration, partying and then some. Football World Cup is the time when the official songs and anthems come out to capture the imagination of the fans worldwide. While the current official song "Ole Ola" by Pitbull featuring Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte has been criticized for being too cliched and not completely reflecting the culture of Brazil, the rap-pop entry has garnered enough following
World Cup dedicated songs or anthems are part of cup legacy since more than half a century now. Official championship songs in the form of theme songs, anthems are a given, so are the unofficial versions from the top musical talent around the world. They build up the hype, warms up the fans by being a constant reminder regarding the approaching carnival and add a bit more fame to the performers
While multilingual-English songs have become a norm nowadays, the songs could be in any language, primarily the language of the hosting nation but Spanish songs are predominant. Some songs even feature in versions of multiple languages
The tradition started at Chile 1962, when the local rock band Los Ramblers were chosen to create an Official Song for the World Cup, They responded with "El Rock del Mundial" in Spanish. England and Mexico followed the routine in subsequent tourneys and it has become a custom nowadays to come up with multiple songs termed as "Official Song", "Official Anthem" and more.
