Fabio Capello sprung a surprise by naming 30 year old Reading striker Pavel Pogrebnyak, who never played under his reign, in the 30-man Russian Provisional Squad for the World Cup. Pavel is the only player not based from Russia in the squad, he last played for the national team in June 2012 against Greece

Expected but notable absentees include Arshad Arshavin, Roman Pavlyuchenko, Dinyar Bilyaletdinov and Fedor Smolov, Artem Dzyuba, who is in a splendid form is included

FIFA has a deadline until June 2 by which all teams need to lodge their 23-member World Cup squads
