England World Cup Squad Announced
The high profile and much awaited, 23-man English World Cup Squad has been announced by coach Roy Hodgson, along with seven backups. Michael Carrick didn't make it into the final squad but will await with tiniest of hopes in the stand-by list along with Andy Carroll. Another notable exclusion is Ashley Cole, who retired from international football after being told by Rodgson that he's not in the plans
There were no other surprises, apart from Cole, in the squad that's entirely based in English leagues, except for Fraser Forster from Celtic. Veterans Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney were given an expected nod in the team full of emerging young players, eight of them under 24
Although the 23-man squad is provisional, barring injury, it is bound to be the same after the June 2 deadline
