Estadio do Maracena or just Maracena of Rio De Janeiro is the largest stadium in Brazil and South America. It has been built in 1950 to host the first World Cup in Brazil and is famous for the final game in which Brazil lost to Uruguay 2-1. It hosted three games, including the final, in the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup after undergoing a renovation. Maracena is set to host four group games, a pre-quarters, a quarter-final and the Final of 2014 FIFA World Cup. It will also feature the opening and closing ceremonies of 2016 Rio Olympics
The City
Rio de Janeiro is the second largest city in Brazil with a population of 6.3 million. Its the erstwhile capital of the country and is highly significant for its history, culture and heritage. Best known for its beaches, carnival celebrations, samba, Bossa Nova music and the iconic Christ the Redeemer statue. Estadio do Maracena
Officially Estadio Journalista Mario Filho, Maracena is as much culturally and historically significant as its City. Home to Botafago, one of the renowned clubs of Rio, it once hosted matches with an estimated attendance of around 200,000 viewers. The capacity has now been reduced to a comfortable 75,000 and is set to host the championship game for the second time of its history
